Venom: The Last Dance

Although The Wild Robot began last weekend as the widest release, newcomer Smile 2 took the top spot at the weekend box office, compiling just over $23 million, and surpassing the former by $13 million in its first three days. Unfortunately for the sequel, it will fall short of a repeat, as Venom: The Last Dance waltzes into cinemas this weekend.

Venom: The Last Dance is the third and final installment in the Venom franchise, following 2018’s Venom and 2021’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which combined brought the franchise $1.36 billion in global receipts. Tom Hardy is back as Eddie Brock, aka Venom, as they are hunted by both of their worlds, forced into a devastating decision that will bring the curtains down on Venom and Eddie’s last dance. The Kelly Marcel-directed feature will be available in 4,131 North American theaters, including IMAX locations.

Also opening new this week is the religious psychological thriller, Conclave. Beginning its run in 1,753 venues, the film stars a bounty of Hollywood veterans, including Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Isabella Rossellini. Set in Vatican City, the film follows a Cardinal who is tasked with overseeing the election of a new Pope, only to find himself at the center while uncovering a secret that could shake the Church to its foundations. Edward Berger, who last directed All Quiet on the Western Front, directs the film, which is based on the 2016 novel by Robert Harris.

Rounding out the top five this weekend is the aforementioned Smile 2, adding five locations this week for a total of 3,624 theaters. Occupying the third-place spot is The Wild Robot in 3,422 movie houses. That film crossed the $100 million mark on Sunday and currently enjoys a 27-day domestic total of $104.2 million. Next is last weekend’s fourth place finisher at the domestic box office, with We Live in Time adding an impressive 1,939 locations from last weekend, making it available in 2,924 theaters this weekend. Lastly, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is still showing in 2,874 cinemas.

Looking ahead to next weekend, we see four new wide releases set to make their theatrical debuts. Projected to arrive in 2,500 locations, Here is the latest collaboration between Forrest Gump alums Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, re-uniting with director Robert Zemeckis. We will update the theater counts for Absolution, Hitpig, and My Dead Friend Zoe when they are reported.
