Per Theater Averages - Counterfeiter's Run is Real

March 4, 2008

The Counterfeiters was the only film to cross $10,000 on the per theater chart this week, pulling in $185,000 in 18 theaters for an average or $10,295. One must assume its Oscar Win boosted its box office this weekend.

Chop Shop was the only other new release to come close to $10,000 with $8,745 in its lone theater. Chicago 10 opened in 14 theaters and pulled in an average of $3,052 while The Unforeseen earned just $2,496 in one theater. City of Men opened well below expectations with just $130,000 in 75 theaters for an average of just $1,741, which is below the Mendoza line. Vivere was also unable to find an audience, pulling in an average of $1,060 in two theaters while Romulus, My Father earned an average of $930 in three.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • Jodhaa Akbar made it to $3 million late in the weekend.
  • In Bruges hit $3 million early in the weekend and is already almost all of the way to $4 million.
  • U2 3D didn't collapse as much as I thought it would, but it did reach $5 million just before the weekend.
