Very Limited Releases On Christmas Weekend
December 24, 2009
A very short list of limited releases on this week's list.
So short that using the plural is not 100% accurate.
That said, the one release that is coming out is generating some buzz, but not always for the right reasons.
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - Reviews
Terry Gilliam's latest film will be remembered to a number of reasons, including its imaginative visuals, as well as being the film Heath Ledger was working on when he tragically died.
The critical response has been mixed, but positive overall.
A lot of critics are complaining that the story isn't as coherent as it could be, but then again, neither Brazil nor Time Bandits could be considered 100% coherent.
It's a matter of making sure Terry Gilliam's imagination serves the story and doesn't distract from it and right now most critics agree that it does.
Even many of those with negative views say there are enough strong performances in the movie that it is worth checking out.
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus opens tonight in four theaters in New York City and the Los Angeles area.
