The final potential monster hit of the summer comes out next week, but G.I.Joe - The Rise of Cobra also has the potential to be the most expensive bomb of the year, which complicates the box office prediction contest, as it is this week's target film. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office of G.I.Joe - The Rise of Cobra.
Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a copy of Secret Diary of a Call Girl on DVD and the soundtrack to Funny People on CD.
Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will win a copy of Echelon Conspiracy on DVD and Van Wilder - Freshman Year on DVD.

There were not a lot of new releases to chart this week, and only one of them made it into the top five. However, that one film was A Haunting in Connecticut, which earned first place earning $8.76 million on 439,000 units sold.

Firstly, that pun in the headline is so bad I caused my physical pain when I wrote it. But as it implies, none of the new releases were able to topple Knowing leaving the DVD in top spot on the rental chart.

It's that time of year when TV on DVD releases dominate the list of top-notch releases That's not to say there are no first run releases, but none of them are worth anything more than a rental. As for contenders for DVD Pick of the Week, there are three: Mad Men - Season Two on DVD or Blu-ray, Leverage - Season 1 on DVD, and The State - The Complete Series on DVD. Mad Men - Season Two is the best, and the Blu-ray is the better deal, but they are all worthy of the DVD Pick of the Week.
