Synopsis
Prevenge follows Ruth, a pregnant woman on a killing spree that’s as funny as it is vicious. It's her misanthropic unborn baby dictating Ruth's actions, holding society responsible for the absence of a father. The child speaks to Ruth from the womb, coaching her to lure and ultimately kill her unsuspecting victims. Struggling with her conscience, loneliness, and a strange strain of prepartum madness, Ruth must ultimately choose between redemption and destruction at the moment of motherhood.

It is another week of quantity over quality on VOD, with only a handful of films earning significant buzz and overall positive reviews. The noteworthy films include of couple of documentaries, Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind and Pretending I’m a Superman: The Tony Hawk Video Game Story, as well as a biopic, Tesla. However, the long-delayed horror flick, Prevenge, could be the biggest hit, as horror films have done well during the pandemic. It doesn’t have the star power Tesla has, but it has better reviews.

TV on DVD continues to dominate the home market, as it does this time every year. Some releases are worth picking up, including Batwoman: The Complete First Season (DVD or Blu-ray) and The Terror: Infamy (DVD). However, the best of the best is Gamera: The Complete Collection Blu-ray. It is expensive, but you could make it your full-time job to watch every piece of content on the 8-disc set and it would take you a week to do so.

It is not a great week for limited releases. Granted, there are several that are earning excellent reviews, films like Dig Two Graves, I Called Him Morgan, The Levelling, and A Woman, A Part. However, none of them look like they will be box office hits. The film I’m most interested in seeing is Prevenge and this film could be a hit, when it hits the home market.
