Synopsis

PASSION is about two rising female executives in a multinational corporation whose fierce competition to rise up the ranks is about to turn literally cut-throat. As the maze-like story begins, Christine – a gorgeous, powerful executive at an international ad agency in Berlin — is searching for a killer idea to impress her bosses, helped by her clever but naïve protégé Isabelle. Isabelle admires Christine’s polish and devotion to her work and Christine feeds on Isabelle’s admiration. But when Isabelle comes up with a brilliant viral marketing idea that wows the client, it is Christine who gleefully takes the credit. Thus begins what starts out as typical office back-stabbing – or “just business,” as Christine explains it — yet soon turns into something ferocious and primal. As Christine and Isabelle jockey for power, a cat-and-mouse game of scheming – professional, sexual and ultimately homicidal — erupts between the two women. But as they become more and more entangled in each other’s ambitions, desires and dreams, who will be the greater manipulator, and who will have the final revenge?

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for November 5th, 2013

November 7th, 2013

It's a big week with several first run releases, some big TV on DVD, releases, and more to deal with. The only one that truly rises to the level of Pick of the Week is Mad Men: Season Six, but the screener arrived late and I hate awarding Pick of the Week to a title when that happens. The only other release I really want to see is White House Down, but that's more guilty pleasure than Pick of the Week. I guess it goes to Mad Men: Season Six on DVD or Blu-ray. More...

Per Theater Chart: Competition Not Included

September 4th, 2013

It was a very lop-sided week on the per theater chart with a couple of films in the $10,000 club, but the rest of the new limited releases, and a couple of new wide releases, were floating around, or below, the Mendoza Line. Instructions Not Included was the best with an average of $22,547 in 348 theaters. Stunning. This result is simply stunning. Afternoon Delight was next with an average of $13,676 in two theaters. Neither film earned good reviews, so it will be interesting to see if either can capitalize on this start. More...

Limited Releases Don't Need Instructions

August 30th, 2013

There are not a lot of limited releases on this week's list, and even fewer that might thrive. Instructions Not Included is the biggest release, but with only one review on Rotten Tomatoes, I'm worried the buzz won't be enough. I Declare War is a Canadian film opening in the States. Its reviews are good, but not great. Our Nixon is earning the best reviews, but as a political documentary, its chances to expand significantly are very limited. More...
