It's a massively busy week in the world of DVD releases, so much so that I'm dividing the column up into two parts with the second part being published tomorrow. I'm trying to organize it alphabetically, (although I'll probably miss a few today and add them tomorrow), but this presents a small problem as none of today's list are really DVD Pick of the Week material. As for tomorrow's list, both
Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit -
Buy from Amazon and
Waiting... -
Unrated Edition are contenders for DVD Pick of the Week. You'll have to stay tuned to see which one wins. (Hint: probably both.)

There was a tie this weekend atop the Per Theater Chart between Melinda and Melinda, both of which were directed by the team of Woody and Allen. Melinda and Melinda earned an amazing $74,238 in its lone theater, which is the best per theater average ever for a Fox Searchlight film over a three-day weekend.

As expected, both Millions and The Upside of Anger made it to the $10,000 club.
However, they finished in the opposite order than expected. The Upside of Anger topped the charts with $211,559 in 9 theatres for an impressive average of $23,507.
That bodes well for this weekend, when it expands into more than 100 theaters, and the weekend after when it goes wide. Millions, on the other hand, opened a little lower than expected but still very strong, with an average of $14,045 in just 5 theaters.
The last film in the $10,000 club was Best of Youth, which saw its weekend haul climb by 37.85% to $10,325 in its loan theater.
That's even more impressive when you take into account its 6 hour runtime.

This week's batch of limited releases include one of the most honest looks at the soldiers fighting in Iraq you'll ever see, a six hour mini-series, an oft-delayed Miramax release, a gay-themed Nazi thriller, and a road trip movie on a desolate highway in Argentina. As always, it's an eclectic mix.
