Synopsis

Forty-two-year-old Manhattan native Isaac Davis has a job he hates, a seventeen-year-old girlfriend, Tracy, he doesn't love, and a lesbian ex-wife, Jill, who's writing a tell-all book about their marriage...and whom he'd like to strangle. But when he meets his best friend's sexy intellectual mistress, Mary, Isaac falls head over heels in lust! Leaving Tracy, bedding Mary and quitting his job are just the beginnings of Isaac's quest for romance and fulfillment in a city where sex is as intimate as a handshake - and the gateway to true love...is a revolving door.

Limited and VOD Releases: Getting Personal

March 10th, 2017

Personal Shopper

It is not a particularly busy week for limited releases, but there are a few that are earning good reviews and louder buzz. My Scientology Movie, Personal Shopper, and Raw all fit that description, but Personal Shopper probably has the best shot at box office success. More...

Contest: Apart from the Crowd

February 17th, 2012

Next weekend, the widest release of the week will be Act of Valor, which is opening in 3000 theaters, going by early estimates. On the other hand, Tyler Perry's Good Deeds is only opening in 2000 theaters, again, going by early estimates. Despite this chasm in theater counts, many expect the latter to top the former by a wide degree at the box office and because of this, we are going to use Tyler Perry's Good Deeds as the target film in this week's Box Office Prediction Contest. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office number for Tyler Perry's Good Deeds. Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a copy of The Apartment on Blu-ray. Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will win a copy of Manhattan on Blu-ray. Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay! More...

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for February 7th, 2012

February 7th, 2012

The biggest release of the week on the home market is The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Part 1, which comes out on DVD and Blu-ray ... on Saturday. So you still have a few more days to wait. As for the best release of the week, that's Lady and the Tramp, which is making its Blu-ray and is our Pick of the Week. More...

Featured Blu-ray Review: Woody Allen Double-Shot: Annie Hall and Manhattan

February 4th, 2012

Woody Allen had the biggest hit in his career this year with Midnight in Paris (in terms of raw dollars, not ticket sales). It just picked up several Oscar nominations and there's a chance it could win. It makes perfect sense with the publicity surrounding that film to release some of his older films on Blu-ray. Recently Annie Hall and Manhattan came out on high definition, but have they aged well? And are the Blu-rays worth picking up? More...

Contest: Early Oscar Glory

February 3rd, 2012

The widest release of next week is Journey 2: The Mysterious Island; however, I think Safe House will have the biggest opening weekend of the four wide releases / re-releases. As such, it is the target film in this week's Box Office Prediction Contest. Meanwhile, since our Oscar Prediction contest begins next week, this week's prizes are two films that battled for Oscar glory in the past. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office number for Safe House. Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a copy of Annie Hall on Blu-ray. Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will win a copy of Manhattan of Blu-ray. Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay! More...

DVD and Blu-ray Releases for January 24th, 2012

January 24th, 2012

There are three first run releases of note this week, including an Awards Season player, 50/50; the latest installment in a perennial horror franchise, Paranormal Activity 3; and big budget family film, Real Steel. Of those three, 50/50 is the best and a contender for Pick of the Week. Other contenders include Godzilla: The Criterion Collection on Blu-ray and Wings on Blu-ray. However, I'm going with a late arrival: Moneyball on Blu-ray / DVD Combo Pack. More...
