Home Market Releases for January 23rd, 2018

January 22nd, 2018

Jane

It’s a really slow week on the home market. There are only a few releases that went anywhere at the box office, led by Jigsaw, which is a bad movie. Meanwhile, Geostorm is so bad it’s good. It’s fun, if you are into B movies, but it’s not Pick of the Week material. The only real contenders are Jane, which is only coming out on Video on Demand, and Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, which is getting a Two-Disc Special Edition. In the end, I went with Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, mainly because Jane doesn’t come out on DVD / Blu-ray until next month. More...

Theater Averages: Lady Bird is the Picture of Health earning $91,109

November 8th, 2017

Lady Bird

A yearly record was broken this past weekend, as Lady Bird had the best theater average of the year so far with an average of $91,109 in four theaters. This tops the previous yearly record of $84,315 by The Big Sick. It wasn’t the only monster hit on the theater average chart this week. Thor: Ragnarok earned an average of $30,085 in just over 4,000 theaters. There were also two other films that just managed to earn a spot in the $10,000 club, 1945 and Last Flag Flying, which earned averages of $10,317 in two theaters and $10,140 in four theaters respectively.

Weekend Estimates: Young Women Power Death Day to Victory

October 15th, 2017

Happy Death Day

This weekend will be another winner for horror movies, with Happy Death Day powering into first place with a projected $26.5 million, according to Universal’s Sunday morning numbers. That puts it miles ahead of Blade Runner 2049, which failed to broaden its audience this weekend, and is down 54% to $15.1 million, for $60.6 million in total. More...

Limited and VOD Releases: Don’t Waste this Opportunity to see a Limited Release

October 13th, 2017

Wasted! The Story of Food Waste

The two biggest limited releases in terms of buzz, Breathe and Goodbye Christopher Robin, both failed to live up to expectations with critics and likely won’t have long legs at the box office. On the other hand, there are several documentaries worth checking out, like 78/52: Hitchcock’s Shower Scene, The Departure, Human Flow, and Wasted! The Story of Food Waste. More...
