DVD Releases for April 27, 2004

April 26th, 2004

Every week films get a second chance at success from the home market; or, in some cases, a first chance at success. Here is a list of wide releases, limited releases and a few from the growing TV on DVD section. A couple of selections caught my eye this week, Love Actually - (Buy from Amazon) and Kids in the Hall - Season 1 both of which are my DVD pick of the week. More...

Filling the Void

January 29th, 2004

The mountain climbing documentary, Touching the Void, topped this week's Per Theatre Average chart. The film earned almost $100 thousand in just 5 theatres for an impressive average of $19,395. That was nearly double the second place contender, Empathy, which took in $11,975 in its only theatre. More...

The debut of Along Came Polly came in first with $9,290 per theatre, while the second weekend for The Battle of Algiers was just behind with $9,240 per theatre. Perhaps the best performance was by Girl with a Pearl Earring, which saw an increase in both theatre count and per theatre average. More...

Having Designs on Top Spot

January 15th, 2004

The two documentaries about famous designer, Yves St. Laurent, finished first on the per theatre average this week. While its average of $15,385 was enough to take top spot, it is not particularly high for a movie opening in only one theatre and chances of mainstream success are not likely. More...

Monster Opening

December 30th, 2003

Three of the four movies that broke $10,000 per theatre last week also accomplished that feat this week. However, it was a new comer that took top spot. Monster earned over $100,000 since it opened on Christmas day and it had a weekend average of $21,708, which was more than $5000 above its nearest competitor. More...
