DEG Watched At Home Chart: Skywalker Remains Top Draw
April 23, 2020
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker remained on top of the chart on this week’s DEG Watched at Home Chart. In fact, the top five were nearly identical to the top five from last week, so we are going to spend some more time looking lower down the list.
Bad Boys for Life rose to second place and was one of two Sony films in the top five. It was a good year for Sony, until covid-19 shut theaters.
Sonic the Hedgehog remained one of Paramount’s rare bright spots, securing third place on this week’s chart.
Dolittle is going to lose money, but it appears to be much more lucrative on the home market than it was in theaters, landing in fourth place this week.
Jumanji: The Next Level remained in fifth place, making Sony the only studio with two entries in the top five. They had two more in the top 20 with Little Women and Bloodshot landing in 10th and 11th places respectively.
Another live-action family film earned sixth place, but this it too little, too late for The Call of the Wild. This is one of two high-budget live-action family films to bomb in theaters this year and it shows there’s not a real demand for these movies.
Other films getting a second life on the home market include The Way Back and Underwater. The two films had vastly different target audiences and vastly different budgets, but sadly similar box office numbers. They landed in twelfth and thirteenth this week.
