Home Market Releases for December 31st, 2019
December 31, 2019
I’m going to start this list by saying I don’t know if any of the DVD / Blu-rays on this week’s list are actually coming out on Tuesday. December 31st is a Tuesday, so it would make sense that something is coming out; however, December 31st is also a placeholder date and it is possible that any number of these releases were given that placeholder date by Amazon and then they forgot to update it. There are almost no releases on this week’s list that most people will have heard of, with the main exception being Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, which is only coming out on Video on Demand. The Blu-ray is currently in my Blu-ray player and I hope to get the review done over the weekend. If I stick with my usual rules about what gets featured on this list and what is relegated to a secondary title, then there would be almost nothing to talk about, so I’m including a few releases that aren’t even in the top 10,000 on Amazon’s sales rankings and I’m not bothering with any secondary releases. I promise next week will be more normal.

A Canadian movie about a 17-year girl who has been raised by her grandmother, but longs to find her mother. However, when her mother returns, she realizes her grandmother might have been the best parent she could hope for.
Amazon has this DVD listed as a CD. I reported the error, as I have reported dozens of similar errors, but Amazon has never once fixed one of these problems. I think the report button is a placebo to make customers think Amazon cares about accuracy.
Inés (Celia Freijeiro) is a Spanish lesbian living in Miami with a fantastic life, until she screws up costing her her job, her girlfriend, and more. The movie is based on a popular web series, but the few reviews I’ve seen have been less than glowing.
This is a great show, one of the best sports Anime of all time. However, $100 is a lot to ask for a single season, especially since the regular Blu-ray cost just $40.
The last film with Burt Reynolds.
The is one of only two films on this week’s list that more than a handful of readers will have heard of. It is also the only one I’m interested in watching and therefore I guess it is the Pick of the Week by default, even though it is only coming out on VOD this week. I do have a screener, so I will try to review it ASAP.
One of the best selling new releases of the week and it wouldn’t even make it as a secondary release in a typical week.
I swear this Blu-ray was released already. Maybe it was pushed back till this date, but Amazon.ca has it coming out on the 14th of January, so maybe that’s the real release date.
Video on Demand
Video on Demand (4K Ultra HD)
According to Amazon, this is coming out on DVD / Blu-ray this week. According to the review solicitation I got, it is coming out on VOD today and DVD / Blu-ray next week.
A 1949 Film Noir about a US treasury agent, who goes after some counterfeiters. It’s not the best example of the genre, but it is Film Noir, so I’m at least a little interested.
