Home Market Releases for April 30, 2019
April 30, 2019
The spring doldrums continue with very few major releases and almost no big hits arriving on the home market this week. There are a couple of titles competing for Pick of the Week: Police Story Double-Shot and Arctic. Both are worth owning, but I went with Police Story as the Pick of the Week.

Mads Mikkelsen stars as the sole survivor of a plane crash. When the first rescue attempt fails, he has to decide whether or not to wait for another rescue attempt, one that might not come in time, or risk leaving the crash site to try and make it to civilization on his own. The reviews are fantastic and the extras are relatively good for a limited release. Granted, there is no audio commentary track, but there are two featurettes and some deleted scenes. It is certainly worth picking up and a contender for Pick of the Week.

This movie tries to be edgy, but is about as edgy as a hack comic shouting “Are you triggered!?” at a heckler.
This is basically Power Rangers mixed with Captain Planet, only it predates both of those shows by more than a decade, first starting in the early 1970s. The show was amazing for its time and while some aspects haven’t aged well, it is still very entertaining. The 15-disc box set has plenty of extras and the price-per-minute is really cheap for Anime. If you are a fan of Anime and want to see one of the earliest successes, then this is certainly worth picking up.
This is an Ecchi Harem Anime series, which is a series of words that might confuse some people and many of the people who do know what those terms mean will roll their eyes. That said, this is one of the better examples of the genre, while there are better than average extras on the Blu-ray. It’s worth picking up for fans of the show or of ecchi in general.

Stick with the original.
This franchise represents two of Jackie Chan’s best movies. Additionally, there’s a good list of extras, some new and some archival. Furthermore, this is the first time the second film has been released in HD here, so that’s a major selling point as well. It adds up to an easy purchase and a contender for Pick of the Week.
A PBS series about the Civil War and the equality it was supposed to bring and how we are still dealing with the aftermath. There are only four reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but all four of them are positive.
Video on Demand
This movie is really bad, but it has such a bonkers surprise twist that you almost have to watch it for yourself.

There is a very eclectic mix of Secondary Blu-ray releases this week. These include films like Emanuelle and Francoise, which is old school erotica. There’s a number of horror films of varying quality, with Tarantula being the one I’m most interested in. Mitsuboshi Colors is arguably the best of the three animated titles. The two X-Men are also of interest, but I think those films have been released too many times to be worth picking up.
Hannibal - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: 4K Ultra HD Release
There is only one 4K release this week and it isn’t worth owning.
Adventure Time - Reviews - Buy from Amazon: DVD
I got the screener for this release, sort of. I only received the bonus DVD and the artbook and even then it only arrived on Monday evening. I will hopefully get to the review this weekend.
