Theater Averages: Smells Like Victory

While there were no breakout hits on this week’s theater average chart, but there are few members of the $10,000 club. Her Smell led the way with an average of $12,314 in three theaters. Teen Spirit did well with an average of $10,905 in four theaters. Meanwhile, Wild Nights with Emily just managed to grab a spot in the $10,000 club with an average of $10,070 in three theaters.
There were a lot of other new limited releases and they had a wide range of results. Iyengar: The Man, Yoga, The Student’s Journey almost reached the $10,000 club with an opening of $9,248 in one theater. Long Day’s Journey Into Night earned an average of $8,915 in three theaters. Wild opened with $7,440 in one theater over the weekend for a total five-day opening of $11,139. Dogman struggled with an average of $4,338 in three theaters.
There were also a lot of films that missed the Mendoza Line, many by wide margins. Made Me Do It just missed the Mendoza Line with an average of $1,921 in two theaters. Meanwhile, Master Z: Ip Man Legacy was next with an average of $1,519 in 61 theaters. On the other hand, Girls of the Sun was well back with an average of just $975 in 8 theaters. Mary Magdalene predictably struggled with an average of $752 in 62 theaters. Mia and the White Lion was the widest limited release of the week playing in 312 theaters. This was way too many, because despite earning solid reviews, the film only managed an average of $618.
