Theater Averages: Museum Sneaks away with First Place

It was a crowded week on the theater average chart with five films in the $10,000 club. This includes Museum, which led the way with $16,554 in its lone theater. Hal actually jumped into the $10,000 club with $12,150 in one theater during its second weekend of release. Lizzie was the widest release in the $10,000 club with an average of $11,895 in four theaters. Science Fair was next with $11,231 in one theater. Another documentary, The Dawn Wall, was next with an average of $10,829 in two theaters.
There were several other new limited releases that did quite well. The Public Image is Rotten opened with $8,052 in one theater, while Antonio Lopez 1970: Sex Fashion and Disco was relatively close behind with $7,167 in one theater. Bel Canto and The Children Act both had fine openings with averages of $6,211 in two theaters and $6,098 in three theaters respectively. Up next was When You Read this Letter with $5,166 in one theater over the weekend and a five-day debut of $7,047. Hale County This Morning, This Evening managed an average of $4,957 in two theaters. The Riot Act struggled with an average of $3,204 in nine theaters. Husband Material took in close to $300,000 in 99 theaters for an average of $2,954.
There were a trio of films that missed the Mendoza Line and sadly none of them even came close. Where Hands Touch only managed an average of $658 in 103 theaters. American Chaos was even worse with an average of just $293 in 26 theaters. Finally, A Wizard’s Tale earned an aveage of $163 in ten.
