Per Theater Chart: Phoenix Reborn

None of the wide releases earned a spot in the $10,000 club, but at least we had a couple of limited releases that found their way there. The number one film was Phoenix with an average of $15,148 in two theaters. Samba was next with an average of $12,294, also in two theaters.

The rest of the new limited releases all missed the Mendoza Line ($2,000 per theater). Only You came the closest with an average of $1,951 in 14 theaters. The Vatican Tapes was a fraction of a percent behind with an average of $1,949 in 427 theaters. American Heist was way back with an average of just $127 in 2 theaters. Then again, it was also a VOD debut, so its theatrical numbers mean very little.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a couple of Per Theater Chart alumni:

• The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out Of The Window and Disappeared reached $1 million, but that includes its early run in Canada.
• As expected, Amy made it to $5 million over the weekend. Its per theater average is low enough that it will continue to lose theaters making $10 million out of reach. That said, this is a fantastic run for a documentary.
• Bollywood films tend to have terrible legs, but Bajrangi Bhaijaan fell just 42% over the weekend. It had already crossed $5 million domestically making it one of the biggest Bollywood hits here. Its chances of getting to $10 million are dubious.
• Mr. Holmes expanded its theater count and that helped it get to $5 million early in the weekend. Its per theater average suggests it won't expand too much more, but it should last long enough to get to $10 million.
