In America stays in First Place
December 10, 2003
In top spot, and the only film to earn more than $10,000 per theatre, was In America. The film dropped just 30%, despite the post-Thanksgiving slump. Some positive word-of-mouth and an increased theatre count could spell mainstream success.
It is strange that none of the independent films opening this weekend were able to top $10,000 per theatre. The top of last weekend's class was What Alice Found, which earned strong reviews but only managed $6700 in one theatre.
Per theatre average alum, Pieces of April passed $2 million mid-week. For a film that cost less than half a million to make, that is an excellent result.
