Weak Week for Limited Releases

Assuming Fahrenheit 9/11 should be considered a wide release, this is a rather poor week for limited releases. Just three films appear on the charts and none of them are generating really good reviews.

The Intended - Reviews
Another film made under the restrictive rules of the Dogme 95 manifesto. While I applaud filmmakers trying to avoid the, 'special effects over emotional impact' method that seems to rule most Hollywood movies, some of the Dogme rules interfere with telling the story too much. Fortunately, the film isn't strictly made under the rules. But unfortunately, there are other problems that keep this film from coming together.

Keana - Reviews
The first French computer animated film. It was originally developed as a video game; probably should have stayed as a video game. The visuals are stunning, if a little derivative at times, but the story line is too generic to make for a compelling movie. At least the orginal website is really cool.

Time of the Wolf - Reviews
The only film to manage an overall positive score and it was barely able to do that. After the collapse of society a family tries to escape the aftermath by retreating to their summer home only to find it occupied by strangers. Not up to director Michael Haneke usually high standards and the pace is slow at times.
