Triple Shot for Shooter

July 21, 2007

Once again, new releases were unable to top the holdovers leaving Shooter in first place with $5.40 million over the week for a three-week total of $19.70 million. Black Snake Moan remained in second place, again, $4.06 million over the weekend for a third week total of $15.13 million. The Last Mimzy was the first of the newcomers placing third with $3.73 million; this is below average, even compared to its weak theatrical run, but its younger target audience is the likely culprit here. Bridge to Terabithia dipped to fourth adding $2.91 million to its total of $16.62 million after nearly a month of release. Rounding out the top five was Ghost Rider; that film pulled in $2.64 million for the week and $25.99 million in total.

The best of the rest of the new releases was The Astronaut Farmer, which placed 8th with $2.47 million. There was a slew of direct-to-DVD releases up next led by The Contractor in 15th with $1.39 million. Cherry Crush came in at 23rd place with $960,000 while The Last Time earned 27th place with $810,000. Finally, Sweet Land opened in 34th place with $670,000.

The Last Mimzy opened up in first place in on the sales chart, just ahead of last week's winner, Shooter. The Astronaut Farmer opened in third place while Bridge to Terabithia placed fourth. The final film in the top five was Ghost Rider, which has been in the top five for more than a month now.

There was only one other new release to chart this week, The Contractor, and it placed 11th.
