Updated - Potter Breaks Wednesday Record with $44.2 Million
July 12, 2007
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix made a record-breaking $44,232,338 on Wednesday.
That's a new benchmark figure for a Wednesday, beating the opening of Spider-Man 2 on June 30, 2004.
The number includes $12 million from midnight preview screenings, which was already a record for a Tuesday night.
With limited competition coming from other openers this weekend, Potter will mainly be looking at The Transformers as its adversary this weekend.
The July 4 champion continues to bring in strong business and is nearing $200 million after just 9 days in release.
It should reach the mark on Friday, after 11 days.
That's well short of the 8-day record held by Star Wars Ep. III: Revenge of the Sith and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (see full chart Filed under: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
