International Top Five - Ride On

March 7, 2007

Ghost Rider was relatively flat this week as it earned $16.63 million on 4008 screens in 47 markets for a total of $61.49 million internationally. Its biggest market in terms of raw dollars was the U.K. with $3.56 million on 342 screens, but it could only managed second place behind local smash hit, Hot Fuzz. On the other hand, it opened in first place in Brazil with $1.8 million on 278 screens and remained in first place in Germany with $1.44 million on 369 screens for a two-week total of $4.25 million. On the opposite end was its opening in Japan; there the film could do no better than fourth with $1.16 million on 256 screens and will likely disappear very quickly after this weekend.

The rest of the top five were well back, but very close together.

The Pursuit Of Happyness shot back into second place with $6.74 million on 2623 screens in 58 markets for an international total of $126.61 million. The film opened in three east Asian markets including South Korea, ($1.84 million on 140 screens); Taiwan, ($410,000 on 18); and Singapore, ($230,000 on 26). The film still has a few more markets left, but it won't reach many more milestones now.

Night at the Museum saw its weekend box office sliced nearly in half to $6.32 million on 3033 screens in 22 markets for a total of $278.98 million. The film has yet to open in Japan and should have little problem topping $300 million international when it does.

La Vie En Rose slipped a spot to fourth with $6.13 million on 990 screens in 5 markets for a total of $31.38 million so far. Box office numbers for France were unknown, but the film did take in $616,000 on 205 screens during its second weekend in Germany for a total of $1.88 million after two weeks.

Dreamgirls climbed into the top five with $6.07 million on 1852 screens in 48 markets for a total of $37.90 million. The film opened in France over the weekend, but full details were not available and reports were mixed. It appears that the film finished in eighth place with $1.4 million on an estimated 350 screens. It did hold up very well in Japan down 20% to $1.33 million on 288 screens for a total of $9.50 million, which is the film's best single market so far. It also held well in South Korea down less than 40% to $761,000 on 114 screens for at two-week total of $3.37 million.
