International Top Five - Night on the Town

Night at the Museum stormed into the international marketplace with $47.3 million on 4,722 screens in 26 markets. In the U.K. the film made $7.80 million on 488 screens over the weekend and $15.05 million since Boxing Day. In Australia it had to settle for second place with $3.19 million on 365 screens over the weekend and $5.10 million in total. In Mexico the film shot up to first place with $2.24 million on 972 screens during its first full weekend of release and $7.04 million since Christmas day. After just two weeks Museum has pulled in $58.1 million with many major markets still to come as it rolls out from now until March.

Happy Feet opened in its native market of Australia, and set a record for a local film there. It earned first place over the weekend with $5.20 million on 404 screens while it earned $8.74 million since Boxing Day. Overall the film made $20.2 million on 6,100 screens in 58 markets for an international total of $113.8 million.

Eragon Also reached the $100 million market at the international box office this weekend with $20 million on 6,957 screens in 51 markets for a total of $105 million. Its had two strong openings in mid-level markets with $1.5 million on 244 screens in Brazil and $647,000 on 109 in Poland. The film has struggled domestically, but its international run could save the studio from losing a huge chunk of money.

The Holiday remained in fourth place with $16 million on 3,400 screens in 40 markets for a total of $70 million internationally. The film finally opened in full in Australia, picking up fourth with $1.99 million on 273 screens over the weekend and $3.56 million including previews. The film placed one spot higher in France but earned just $2.3 million on 414 screens. Overall Holiday has to be considered a success as it has earned $123 million worldwide include $20.10 million in the U.K. alone.

Casino Royale was just behind with $15.8 million on 5,300 screens in 61 markets for a total of $338 million internationally. It is now in 33rd place on the international charts and should have no trouble climbing into the top 30 by the end of the week. Worldwide, the film has now brought in an impressive $492 million and will become the 47th film to earn $500 million worldwide, possibly as early as Tuesday.
