Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of August 22, 2008
August 24, 2008
With the end of summer, there are a lot more wide releases than we've normally had during the past three months and this partially explains why we have a tie at the top with both Death Race 3000 - Official Site and The House Bunny - Official Site being judge the best of this week's offerings.
Cthulhu - Official Site
Death Race 3000 - Official Site
Hamlet 2 - Official Site
The House Bunny - Official Site
I.O.U.S.A. - Official Site
The Longshots - Official Site
Momma's Man - Official Site
The Rocker - Official Site
Trouble the Water - Official Site
All of usual features are here (synopsis, production notes, cast & crew bios, images, and trailer), but there's not a lot to set it apart. Also, the image gallery is a slideshow that you have no control over, which is not my preferred way to look at images. But overall it is a solid site.
Woo hoo! There's a racing game here, and one of the cars you can choose is a Porsche 911! It's a fun racing game, granted, it's not Carmageddon, but it is fun, nonetheless. In addition to the game, there are all of the usual features (synopsis, production notes, cast & crew bios, image gallery, and trailer) as well as a few extras like concept art, clips, R-rated clips that I can't see cause I'm Canadian, and a behind-the-scenes featurette. Add in the sound and animation, and it is a great site, and even a contender for the Woo Hoo! Weekly Website Award.
A lot of features here, including clips and the music video for "Rock Me Sexy Jesus." Sadly, trying to see that video caused my browser to crash... three times in a row.
All the basics are here (synopsis, cast & crew, image gallery, and trailer) as well as extras. These include regulars like video clips (including interviews at the premiere) and audio clips (including some that were made just for the site and not just take from the movie). There are also a few top ten lists on various topics, and short game, and a personality quiz to determine which Zeta you are. (I'm Mona or Natalie. It depends on a couple of close questions.) Overall an excellent site, and a contender for the Wascally Wabbit Weekly Website Award.
Typical documentary site that focuses on information and not style. The most unique feature is the clip of viewer testimonials.
Just the absolute basics. This would be fine for a limited release, but for a wide release it is weaker than acceptable.
All of the usual features, but not a lot of polish. It feels like an independent movie site, mainly because it is.
The basic features, a single clip, a game, and some audio clips. If this was a limited release, this would be a great site, but for the widest release of the week, it's weak.
Typical of many activist documentary sites that feels like it wants people to take action, but isn't trying to get them to watch the movie. Additionally, like many documentary sites, it lacks style.
