Wire Towers Higher than Bat

Man on Wire topped the per theater chart this week by pulling in an impressive average of $25,696 in two theaters. This was ahead of the overall box office leader, The Dark Knight, which earned an average of $17,216 in more than 4,000 theaters. Transsiberian also repeated in the $10,000 club, down roughly 23% to $13,280. Brideshead Revisited opened in 22 theaters, which is a lot of a limited release, but still managed an average of $10,291 during its opening weekend, which bodes well for its prospects at expansion. The final film to reach $10,000 did so by the narrowest of narrow margins as Step Brothers topped that milestone by less than 24 cents.

One other new release came close to that mark as American Teen earned more than $45,000 in 5 theaters for an average of $9,118. Boy A opened with $12,000 in 2 theaters for a $6,000 average, which is better than most limited releases earn. On the other hand, Bustin' Down the Door was not as strong with an average of just $3,200. Meanwhile, No Regrets barely topped the Mendoza line with $2,091 and CSNY: Déjà Vu wasn't even able to do that with just $1,371.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • The Wackness topped $1 million over the weekend, but it has likely peaked at the box office.
  • Mongol made it all the way to $5 million since last week, but that's as far as it will go.
  • Likewise, Kit Kittredge: An American Girl reached its final milestone, but $15 million isn't bad given its struggles as it expanded semi-wide.
