Movie Website Reviews for Weekend of February 8, 2008
February 9, 2008
Not much competition for the Weekly Website Award as only one site truly stood out as above average. That site was for Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins - Official Site, and won thanks to a combination of regular features, video clips, and games.
Bab'Aziz - Official Site
The Band's Visit - Official Site
Fool's Gold - Official Site
The Hottie and the Nottie - Official Site
How to Rob a Bank - Official Site
In Bruges - Official Site
One Piece: The Desert Princess and the Pirates Adventures in Alabasta - Official Site
Spiral - Official Site
Ugly Me - No Official Site
Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights - Hollywood to the Heartland - Official Site
Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins - Official Site
No style here, and most of the information has to be downloaded in a .pdf file.
All the usual information is here, but the site is rather low key. Then again, so is the movie so the tone fits.
Just the basics (synopsis, production notes, bios, images, and trailer) with a menu system that is not user friendly.
One of the bigger and better sites on this week's list. This site not only has all of the usual information, there are also several clips including a behind-the-scenes clip. Sadly, none of these clips sell the movie very well.
All the usual information is here, plus an EPK featurette and an audio interview with one of the stars, Gavin Rossdale. However, there's not a lot of polish here and that hurts the effectiveness of the site.
Another site with enough information, but almost nothing in the way of style. This is a problem with a lot of sites for limited releases.
Just the synopsis, character bios, and the trailer with the sections for Video and Downloads marked coming soon.
All of the usual features are here plus four on-the-set featurettes with a total running time of just under 6 minutes. No flash, but effective. (On a side note, in the third poster, the door reminds me of the door to Richard Upton Pickman apartment in the Mythos card game. Not sure if that's intentional, but it could be as Mr. Pickman was another disturbed artist.)
No official site, which is a shame since this movie could have had a great site.
All the usual information is here, plus a huge number of clips, most of which were found in Explore the Cities section. Overall, there's enough style here to work, but not enough to really stand out.
Big site with tons of videos, and by tone I mean close to 20 just for the section and 8 more in the video sections (there is some overlap here). In addition, there are three games including two action games and a personality quiz. Add in the regular features (synopsis, bios, image gallery, trailers), and you have the best site on this week's list. And it only took till the very end to get there. But despite the wait, at least we get to the prodigal Weekly Website Award.
