4 + 3 + 2 = Number One on Per Theater Chart

4 Months, 3 Weeks, 2 Days may have been snubbed by Oscar, but moviegoers felt differently as it earned more than $50,000 in 2 theaters for an average of $25,856 over the weekend. U2 3D earned a million dollars during its opening, more or less. Less over the weekend, but more since Wednesday. This helped it into second place on the per theater chart with an average of $15,808 in 61 theaters. The final film to top $10,000 was L'Annee Derniere a Marienbad in its second weekend of re-release earning $13,719 in one theater.

None of the other limited releases even came close to $10,000 and Lost in Beijing placed the closest with $4,337 in one theater. Alice's House earned just under $20,000 in 6 for an average of $3,181. A strong cast couldn't help The Air I Breathe, which struggled with an average of $2,784. Meanwhile, Shoot Down managed an average of just $2,448 in seven theaters. Finally, Skid Marks didn't slip below the Mendoza line like I was expecting, but it was awfully close at an average of $2,056 in four theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Charts alumni:

• As previously mentioned, U2 3D earned more than $1 million since Wednesday.
• Persepolis also reached $1 million and should still have room to expand.
• The Diving Bell and the Butterfly hits $3 million over the weekend, and while expansion is far less likely, $4 million is still well within reach.
• The Savages made it to $4 million over the weekend and likely has one more milestone in its futures.
• There Will Be Blood surpassed $10 million early in the weekend and will have reached $15 million once Monday's numbers are known.
• Atonement reached yet another miles stone with $35 million, putting it just ahead of The Brave One and just below Stardust.
• No Country for Old Men has surged thanks to its performance during Awards Season and that helped it get to $50 million over the weekend. This puts it ahead of Resident Evil: Extinction and just below P.S., I Love You.
• As for the undisputed box office champ among limited releases, Juno grew by almost 2% this past weekend and that helped it over the $100 million mark. It is the 28th film from 2007 to reach that milestone, which is one short of the record. It also puts the film just above Meet the Robinsons and just above Evan Almighty.
