Limited Releases are a Bloody Mess

January 4, 2008

It's the week after the Oscar qualifying deadline. Needless to say, that means there is not a bumper crop of limited releases coming out this week. In fact, there are only two film and neither are earning even 50% positive reviews.

A Bloody Aria - Reviews
A South Korean film about a professor and one of his students who travel to the countryside only to be terrorized by some deranged locals. It's a revenge flick that takes too long to get moving while the payoff isn't powerful enough to satisfy fans of the genre. A Bloody Aria opens tonight at the ImaginAsian in New York City.

The Killing of John Lennon - Reviews
A dramatization of the murder of John Lennon. John Lennon was a fascinating man and his live is worthy of a hundred movies. The man who killed him is not. His story is simply not that interesting, certainly not interesting enough for a 2-hour movie. I'm not sure who the target audience for this movie is, or even if there is one. The Killing of John Lennon opened on Wednesday at the IFC Center in New York City.
