In 1981, The Rolling Stones toured in support of Tattoo You, which was their last album to reach the top of Billboard's chart and produced a number of hits, most notably "Start Me Up". The concert film that was released a year later, Let's Spend the Night Together, was put together from two concerts, starting with...
Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona - December 13th, 1981
Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey - November 5th, 1981
And the concert ends with a rendition of
As for the actual concert, the product is mixed. Yes, there are a number of fantastic songs played here, but you don't get the full effect because the sound is so poor. I swear, if you haven't heard these songs before, you might not be able to recognize them. Also, sound is just in 2.0 stereo, so don't expect your surround sound speakers to get much of a workout. Or any workout.
The DVD cover says there's the trailer and a still gallery, but I can't find them.
The latest DVD release for Let's Spend the Night Together is rather cheap, both in terms of price and quality. In fact, one might argue that the price is the DVD's best feature. Completists might want to pick it up, but regular fans will want to grab one of their other concert DVDs.
The Show
There's little in the way of style in this concert film, with only a few moments of behind-the-scenes footage in addition to the performances. The most interesting of these is between sets, when we see the stage being set up for the indoor portion of the concert film, while there are also some interactions between the band and the crowd.
