International Top of the Chart: Robin Hood is Rich Overseas

As expected, Robin Hood topped the charts at the international box office. It was significantly more popular internationally than it was domestically. During its opening weekend, the film made $70.13 million on 7081 screens in 56 markets for a total opening of $75.16 million. Adding that to what it made here and the movie had a global opening of $111.22 million.
The film's biggest opening came in the U.K. No shock there, as it earned $8.29 million on 537 screens. Meanwhile, France was close behind with $7.79 million on 648 screens. Russia just edged out Germany, with the former contributing $5.52 million on 931 screens over the weekend for a total opening of $6.48 million. The latter made $5.52 million on 712 screens over the weekend and $6.09 million in total. Italy was close behind with $5.14 million on 667 screens, but including weekday numbers it made $6.30 million, which puts is slightly ahead of Germany. It just missed $5 million in Australia, debuting with $4.99 million on 463 screens. It was also strong in Spain, with $4.16 million on 540 screens over the weekend for a total of $4.47 million. In Mexico it made $2.85 million on 805 screens. In all of these markets, the film topped the charts over the weekend.
On the other hand, the film had to settle for second place in South Korea with $3.07 million on 644 screens over the weekend for a total of $3.53 million. It also placed second in Brazil with $2.29 million on 395 screens.
The film has yet to open in China or Japan, and won't open in those markets till June for the former and November for the latter.
Iron Man 2 was pushed into second place, but we will get to that movie and the rest of the multi-million dollar films on the weekend.
