Per Theater Chart: Going Nowhere

October 16, 2012

There was only one film to crack the $10,000 mark on this week's Per Theater Chart. Middle Of Nowhere managed that feat with $68,000 in six theaters for an average of $11,318. Simon and the Oaks came very close with $9,963 in its one theater.

Most of the rest of the new limited releases were pretty weak. The Big Picture and Smashed weren't bad with averages of $6,880 and $6,736 respectively. And both films have good reviews, so they both could have strong legs. Least Among Saints was a little weak with an average of $3,944 in four theaters. Special Forces barely topped the Mendoza Line with an average of $2,152 in five theaters. Photographic Memory wasn't as lucky with an average of $1,503 in two. Finally we get to War of the Buttons and its average of $947 in five theaters.

This past week also saw milestones reached for a few Per Theater Chart alumni:

  • English Vinglish made it to $1 million very early in the weekend and it is already halfway to $2 million.
  • Safety Not Guaranteed topped $4 million over the weekend, but that's as far as it will go.
  • As expected, The Perks of Being a Wallflower got to $5 million over the weekend; in fact, it did better than expected. At this point, getting to $10 million is nearly guaranteed, while getting to $15 million or beyond is a real possibility.
