Blu-ray Sales: New Releases More Powerful in High Definition

There were a lot of new releases on the Blu-ray sales chart this week. This includes Oz the Great and Powerful, which led the way with 472,000 units / $13.21 million during its first week of release. Its opening week Blu-ray share was 46%, which is a good start for a visually impressive adventure film. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters scored second place with 336,000 units / $7.83 million. Its opening week Blu-ray share was 55%, which is is very impressive. A Good Day Die Hard fell to third place with 139,000 units / $1.96 million for the week, giving it totals of 455,000 units / $7.82 million after two. This is merely mediocre, nothing more. Django Unchained roared back into the top five with 109,000 units / $1.46 million for the week, while after two months on the home market, it has sold 1.20 million units and generated $26.86 million in revenue. Snitch was right behind with 103,000 units / $2.06 million. Its opening week Blu-ray share was just 29%, which is lower than expected.

There were a trio of other new releases to chart, all of which were Disney double-shots. Lilo and Stitch led the way earning 12th place with 17,000 units / $338,000. The Emperor's New Groove landed in 15th place with 14,000 units / $282,000, while Atlantis: The Lost Empire 2-Movie Collection was right behind with 13,000 units / $250,000.
