Blu-ray Sales: February 17th, 2013: Skyfall Sky High on High Definition
April 10, 2013
As expected, Skyfall dominated the list of new releases and easily earned first place on the February 17th, 2013 edition of the Blu-ray sales chart. It sold an outstanding 1.62 million units and generated $32.33 million in sales while its opening Blu-ray share was just shy of 60%. That's a fantastic start.
Peter Pan slipped into second place with 181,000 units / $5.08 million for the week and 696,000 units / $19.48 million after two. It will likely cross 1 million units, which is excellent for a catalog title. Hotel Transylvania remained in third place with 141,000 units / $4.22 million for the week and 976,000 units / $24.94 million after three. This is a great run for a kids movie. The Man with the Iron Fists opened in fourth place with 115,000 units / $2.65 million. That's not a great start for a first run release, but its opening week Blu-ray share was 44%, which is very good for a film that struggled at the box office. Flight fell from second to fifth with 75,000 units / $1.50 million for the week and 345,000 units / $6.90 million after two. That's a good start, for a drama.
Silent Hill: Revelation just missed the top five with 63,000 units / $1.45 million for an opening week Blu-ray share of 42%. This is good, but not great. Then again, merely good is a whole lot better than just about any other number in this film's performance thus far. The Perks of Being a Wallflower was right behind with 58,000 units / $986,000. Its opening week Blu-ray share was 19%, which is inline with expectations for a limited release drama.
If you are looking for the overall Blu-ray share and the look at next week's new releases, that will be part of a new column, Home Market Numbers, which will be published shortly.
