Per Theater Chart: Blacking Out

There were no films in the $10,000 club on the per theater chart this weekend. The film that came the closest was Transformers: Age of Extinction, which earned an average of $8,753 in more than 4,000 theaters. The best limited release was Code Black, which earned $7,978 in one theater. The best new release was Tammy with an average of $6,227 in more than 3,000 theaters. Finally, the best new limited release was Life Itself, which managed an average of $5,713 in 23 theaters.

There were a number of other new limited releases, but the only one we have box office numbers for is A Hard Day's Night, which earned $220,542 in 102 theaters for an average of $2,162. This seems really low, but the film was only playing a full schedule in two theaters, while in more than half the theaters it was either playing once a day, or only once for the entire weekend.

This past week also saw milestones reached for several Per Theater Chart alumni:

• The Rover crossed the $1 million mark just before the weekend. That's as far as it will go, but this is better than most limited releases manage.
• Snowpiercer topped $1 million over the weekend and it is already more than halfway to $2 million.
• Begin Again earned more than $1 million over the weekend reaching its first milestone in the process. Its per theater average is strong enough that it will undoubtedly reach more milestones in the near future.
• The Immigrant topped $2 million since this time last week, but that's as far as it will go.
