Synopsis

In the next few decades, humankind will need to double, or even triple energy production as billions of people in the developing world lift themselves out of poverty and begin to live modern lives. Unless the source of this new energy is clean and non-CO2 emitting, the risk of triggering a devastating global climate catastrophe is all but certain. The magnitude of this dilemma, and the limitations of commonly proposed solutions, have left the mainstream environmental movement teetering between apocalyptic thinking and utter disarray.

Per Theater Chart: Bling Ring Steals Top Spot

June 20th, 2013

The Bling Ring's reviews didn't hurt its opening as it scored an average of $42,597 in five theaters. Given this start, reaching at least one major milestone seems likely, even with its reviews. Man of Steel took second place on the per theater chart with an average of $27,720. 20 Feet from Stardom earned an average of $18,199 in three theaters. This is a great start for a documentary. Limited Releases: Put a (Bling) Ring On It

This week's list of limited releases is dominated by horror films and documentaries, which is not a good sign, as neither genre tends to do well at the box office. Documentaries tend to have a better shot at thriving in the art house circuit, but rarely expand wide enough to earn any of mainstream success. On the other hand, one film is opening that has a lot of buzz: The Bling Ring. Given its pedigree, it should open well. But given its reviews, it likely won't last very long. More...
