Here's this week's round-up of international box office numbers.
In Her Shoes fell out of the top five this week with $3.95 million on 2,050 screens in 23 markets for a $30.60 million international box office.
The film held up amazingly well in Spain, dropping just 8% to $810,000 on 290 screens, but it wasn't as fortunate in France where it lost more than half its opening, earning $400,000 on 293 screens, falling out of the top ten in the process.
It suffered a similar fate during its third weekend in the U.K. where it was down 55% to $736,000 on 268 screens, but the film already has $7.06 million there, which is better than its domestic run if you take into account the relative sizes of the two markets.

The Brothers Grimm dropped just 35% during its second weekend in France adding $2.1 million to its $5.7 million total there. In Germany, the film performed a nearly the same level falling 36% to $950,000 over the weekend and $2.9 million during its run. Overall the film made $4 million for a $27.8 million runny tally and that places it fourth on this week's charts. While the film struggled domestically, it is doing quite a bit better on the international scene, and could show a profit sometime during its home market run.

Every week, films get a second chance at success on the home market; or, in some cases, a first chance at success.
This week is deceptively weak for releases; while there are plenty of DVDs coming out tomorrow, many of them are re-releases, double-dips and the like. The best of the bunch is Lifeboat - Special Edition, with Batman Begins - Buy from Amazon close behind.

Company 9 remained in first place in Russia, its home market, down just 13% to $4.3 million for a running total of $14.3 million, which is well ahead of Revenge of the Sith's final box office in the market (which was just shy of $10 million).

Company 9 opened in its native market of Russia with a stunning $5.0 million over the weekend and $6.25 million including the midweek numbers, which is better than Revenge of the Sith's opening in that market.
This also means there were two films that did so well in their local markets that they managed to place in the top five overall.

Wide releases finished first and second on the Per Theater Charts this weekend, with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory leading with $14,901 average in 3,770 theaters.
The Wedding Crashers didn't open in nearly as many theaters but its $11,590 average was impressive nonetheless.
While March of the Penguins did yield the crown on the Per Theater Charts to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, it is still the big story on this week's chart.
The Documentary more than doubled its theater count, again, but its average dropped just 28% to $11,478.

For the third weekend in a row March of the Penguins was the top draw on the Per Theater Charts with over $1 million on just 64 screens for an average of $15,927.
Its per theater average fell a mere 23% on the post-holiday weekend despite more than tripling its theater count, which bodes very well for the film's long term success.
Coming in a very close second was the overall box office champ, Fantastic Four with $15,564.

March of the Penguins got off to an astounding start over the weekend earning $137,492 in just 4 theatres for a very impressive $34,373 per theatre average. Coming is second was
Me You and Everyone We Know with $15,413 in 5 theatres, while debuting during the opening of the
IFC Center obviously helped, this performance shows that the films itself earned much of its success so far.

Me You and Everyone We Know easily took top spot on the Per Theater Charts with $30,801 in its lone theater.
This strong start is not particularly useful in predicting the film's further success, since it was undoubtedly helped out by debuting during the opening of the new IFC Center.
Coming in second was the overall box office champ, Batman Begins, with $12,635.

It looked like the box office was turning around, and while post-holiday slumps are common, this time it was so big that no film made it to the $10,000 club.
The closest was Apres Vous, which brought in $25,504 in 3 theaters for a $8,501 average.

It's been a while since the overall box office champion topped the Per Theater Charts, but that's just what Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith did this weekend. The film fell just short of setting a record for highest per theater average for a saturation level release (3,000 or more theaters), as its per theatre average of $29,619 was just below the $31,768 earned by Spider-Man. The only other film to reach the $10,000 level was Mysterious Skin with $13,300; the film has now reached that milestone for the third weekend in a row, very impressive.
