Summer is officially over, both at the box office and on the home market. Granted, the theatrical releases are still really weak, but the TV on DVD releases are starting to become overwhelming. There are several such releases that are worth picking up, but none rise to the level of Pick of the Week. For that I went with The Coen Brothers Blu-ray Box Set. However, if you've made the leap to Blu-ray, then The Nightmare Before Christmas 3-D Blu-ray Combo Pack is worth an honorable mention. Meanwhile, there's a film called Norwegian Ninja coming out on DVD that has cult classic written all over it. I really hope the screener arrives soon.

For the first time in many weeks there was a real race for top spot on the international charts, also, for the first time in many weeks
The Incredibles didn't win that race. Boosted by debuts in 22 additional markets,
Ocean's Twelve took top spot with $28.9 million on 3900 screens in 27 markets for a early total of $35.2 million. Compared to the
original the results are mixed. IN many places it is a lot lower when compared in local currency, but thanks to the Dollar's extended losing streak, it's much higher in American funds. For instance, the film opened in first place in France with 5.7 million Euros, down 16% from its predecessor, however, that's $7.5 million in American funds, a increase of 28%. Other highlights include $5.3 million in Germany, $3.5 million in Spain, $2.2 million in Italy and $1.4 million in both Holland and Switzerland and just shy of $1 million in Sweden. The film remained in first place in Australia despite dropping 50% at the box office to just $1.8 million.

Every week films get a second chance at success from the home market; or, in some cases, a first chance at success. Here is a list of wide releases, limited releases and a few from the growing TV on DVD section, including the winner of the DVD Pick of the Week, which we will get to shortly. But first I must comment on the sheer number of quality DVDs that are being released this week. It is ridiculous. I would rate more than a dozen DVDs being released tomorrow has must haves, but obviously I can't declare them all the DVD Pick of the Week, so I've narrowed the list to The
Alfred Hitchcock Signature Collection -
Buy from Amazon,
Clerks - 10th Anniversary Edition -
Buy from Amazon and Ginger Snaps Back - The Beginning -
Buy from Amazon. Although my personal shopping list is four times as long.

There's was not much in the way of good news this week, and what little there was was due to a single movie. The Passion of the Christ topped the per theatre chart and was the only film to top $10,000 per theatre taking in $27,554.

Only two films topped $10,000 per theatre this week, but the race was top spot was close enough to make it an interesting weekend on the per theatre charts. Touching the Void remained in first place with $14,837, down just 24% percent from last weekend. In second place with $14,311 was Latter Days. It is particularly interesting to see Latter Days perform so well as Madstone Theaters pulled the from its theatres allegedly due to, 'aesthetic reasons.'

This is a perfect weekend to check out a limited release. With no wide release getting anywhere near overall positive reviews, there should be something for you to check out if you live in New York or L.A. that is. If you don't live in those two cities, check out one of several limited releases that saw expansions in their
theatre counts due to Golden Globe wins or Oscar Nominations.

During the past week promotional websites for several movies were launched and some older ones added additional content. Here the list of this week's releases, a couple of new sites and few updates including the winner for the week. It was a two-way race this week as most sites on today's list had either small updates or launched flash sites that were mostly marked 'coming soon.' In the end,
Ginger Snaps II: Unleashed took this week's top prize. If you know of any new movie websites not on this list feel free to e-mail me with the details.
