We are getting closer and closer to Christmas and we are getting to the crunch time for gift shopping. After checking out first run releases and franchise box sets in Part I and TV on DVD releases in Part II, this week we look at limited releases, classics, and foreign films. Some are pretty obvious choices, as we had a few limited releases that broke into the mainstream during their theatrical releases, but there are also a few more films that slipped beneath the radar the last time around. Next week is Thanksgiving long weekend, which makes things a little more confusing than usual on our weekly Box Office Prediction Contest. There are three wide releases coming out, but they all debut on Wednesday rather than Friday. (Although we still are only concerned with the Friday through Sunday numbers.) Of the three films, Life of Pi is earning the best reviews of the weekend, but it's only hope to be a $100 million hit is if it earns enough Awards Season buzz to still be in semi-wide release in January. It certainly won't have a monster opening. The oft-delayed Red Dawn finally comes out, but the buzz is just as weak as its early reviews. This leaves Rise of The Guardians as the only real choice for the target film in this week's box office prediction contest. In order to win, one must simply predict the opening weekend box office number for Rise of The Guardians.
Whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going over, will win a copy of Bedeviled on Blu-ray.
Meanwhile, whoever comes the closest to predicting the film's opening 3-day weekend box office (Friday to Sunday), without going under, will win a copy of Fire with Fire on DVD.
Entries must be received by 10 a.m., Pacific Time on Friday to be eligible, so don't delay!

It is a soft week for new releases with only Prometheus looking strong. The film has earned polarizing reviews, so while many will like it, it's probably best to rent the DVD, Blu-ray Combo Pack, or 3D Combo Pack instead of buying outright. There are some TV on DVD releases and limited releases coming out this week, but you have to look to the catalogue Blu-rays coming out this week that are contenders for Pick of the Week. E.T. The Extraterrestrial, hasn't arrived yet, but its Anniversary Edition Blu-ray could be the best film on this week's list. However, Dial M for Murder in 3D is also a contender. 3D is still a niche market, so E.T. is the best bet for Pick of the Week.
