DVD Releases for May 11, 2004

May 10th, 2004

Every week films get a second chance at success from the home market; or, in some cases, a first chance at success. It was a strange week for DVD releases, whilere there are 18 releases on the list, fully half of them are TV on DVD and most of the rest of older films. Only two new releases, The Fog of War - Buy from Amazon and In America - Buy from Amazon are on my rental list. And none are on my to buy list. More...

Bill Battles to the Top of the Per Theatre Charts

April 21st, 2004

No film could make $10,000 per theatre this weekend and that's the third time in four weeks that's happened. In top spot was Kill Bill: Volume 2 with an average of $8,450 in 2,971. There were a few There were several holdovers on the list, including Robot Stories, which has been in release for more than two months. More...

It's a Sign of the Apocalypse, I Hope

Oscars Boost Box Office of Several Films

March 8th, 2004

With its 11 Oscar wins and huge jump in theatre count, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King should have had the largest post-Oscar jump at the box office. And while in raw dollars it did, it was the lesser known The Barbarian Invasions that had the biggest percent jump. The Canadian film and winner of Best Foreign Language Film jumped more than 137% at the box office. Its per theatre average also jumped by nearly 40%, compared to the nearly 20% drop by Return of the King. More...

Passions Saves the Box Office

March 3rd, 2004

There's was not much in the way of good news this week, and what little there was was due to a single movie. The Passion of the Christ topped the per theatre chart and was the only film to top $10,000 per theatre taking in $27,554. More...

Lost Independence

March 1st, 2004

The Oscars weren't the only award celebration held over the weekend as the IFP Independent Spirit Awards were also handed out. Lost in Translation was the big winner but plenty of other talent was rewarded. More...

No Small Fry

January 6th, 2004

In an unusual turn of events, Big Fish saw its per theatre average jump this weekend to $20,356 in 125 theatres. This bodes very well for this Friday when it expands into more than 2000 theatres. Next weekend it may no longer be on top on the per theatre average chart, but should place well on the top five overall. More...

Monster Opening

December 30th, 2003

Three of the four movies that broke $10,000 per theatre last week also accomplished that feat this week. However, it was a new comer that took top spot. Fish Remains Big on the Per Theatre Charts

December 23rd, 2003

Taking top spot on the Per Theatre Charts in consecutive weeks is not an easy task, but that's just what Big Fish did this week.
